DESCRIPTION
Adapt a legacy mobile app to millennial audience.
TASKS
Interviews | Benchmarking | Interviews | Paper Prototyping | Guerrilla Test | Card Sorting | Dog food | Moderated Usability Tests | Sketching
This was the appointment on a meeting: "Can you update the usability of the application and make it attractive to millennials?" We discussed internally, read and reread the brief and get on to that crazy task.
The problem
Crystal clear this time, it was that we could not touch anything at the origin of the data. But we could modify the way services are called, and that lead us to start research.
Research
Interviewing foreigners university students always need a good script, I invested time on it and iterated with the 15 first interviews, and applied then to the next 50. From that we've got some nice insights on how foreigner students start learning the language of the country where they are doing a scholarship. Conduct a focus group to establish priority order to work insights, a get hands on ideation.
Designing
Co-creation session always worth it and if I could facilitate double check! Lots of ideas on how to solve pains and a short time to validate. Paper time! Fast prototypes on paper or fake MPV with Invision or Figma let us validate & iterate our design.
Guerrilla test show how important search engine was for a newbie. Once we had the information ordered, we provided the application with a much friendlier interface. With iconography and colors that stays fresh and dynamic and in our final test get a nice approval.
App had a fantastic numbers:
+35% of downloads in the same period of previous year
+150k of languages downloaded in app a 43% of increment.
